We had the vet
palpate Saphira while he was here; he couldn't feel a baby, but he's
pretty sure she's pregnant. The uterus wasn't in the normal
"non pregnant" position but was low enough he couldn't get to it. He
says to watch for another 60 days and see if she foals, if not, then
he'll palpate again and ultrasound if necessary.
The ‘found mare’ is
now named Saphira, she is an adult mare. Saphira leads/loads, but
haven’t tried under saddle.
Saphira is a sweet
mare, handles very well and loads like a champ, she is one of the
calmest horses I’ve ever met. She has gained almost all of her weight
back and is now ready to go to a new home. ‘Fia’ gets along great with
other horses and loves to be loved on; she quickly became a favorite of
our younger volunteers and loves to nap while they are braiding her
mane. We believe her to be an Arab/QH cross. We will be trying her
under saddle soon; watch for updates!
IHR Pike received a call from Pike County Sheriff Dept
11/14/09 approx 9:30 p.m. regarding a horse running at large.
Amber and a volunteer providing a horse trailer met the Deputy and
neighbors to help locate the horse. They were able to catch her
easily, check her for injuries and load her into the trailer. The
Deputy escorted them back to the farm and completed reports. We
hope the owner can be found, but in the meantime, she is receiving all
the care she so much deserves. |
